Questions & Answers

According to the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), professional counselling is a safe and confidential collaboration between qualified counsellors and clients to promote mental health and wellbeing, improve self-awareness and resolve psycho-social issues. Professional counsellors use various evidence-based psychological methods and treatment measures to help clients cope with any of life’s problems. Our therapy sessions offer clients both short and long-term non-judgemental support and effective tools to reach their full potential and make the most out of life circumstances.

The first initial appointments are usually for assessment purposes. We explore the presenting issues and your current needs as well as gather all necessary and relevant psycho-social information to form a holistic understanding of your case. Then together we set some therapy goals and explore what you’d like to achieve in life or what you need support around. There is no set timeframe or deadline by which you have to get where you want to be but psychological interventions can definitely assist you with gaining a better understanding of the problems at hand, contributing factors, your strengths, resources available and ways to improve and move forward. We monitor and review your progress until the termination stage when you feel well-equipped and ready to change and tackle any future difficulties with the insight, strategies, techniques and knowledge gained from therapy.

Everything discussed in counselling is private and confidential. The only exception to this rule is if I’m legally required by a subpoena to release information or clinical notes to court or another independent legal third party. Moreover, in situations where the client, or someone known to the client, is at risk of harm, then I’m ethically and legally obligated by my duty of care to report it to the police and other welfare agencies.
